Academically, Chris first attended Woodrow Wilson High School, then enrolled at West Virginia University, where he performed in the school musical The Music Man. This was followed by The Satan Murders and Thursday’s Game at prime time, before he made his first big breakthrough in the crime thriller Dog Day Afternoon, which grossed up to $50 million at the box office. In addition to the positive reviews the film received, Chris also received his first Oscar nomination for best-supporting actor for his role as Leon Shermer – Al Pacino’s transsexual wife. In 1980 Sarandon was given the role of Christ in the television film The Day Christ Died. In the same year, he appeared as Sydney Carton/Charles Darnay in A Tale of Two Cities. One year after the separation of the marriage in the late 70s, the actor married his second wife Lisa Ann Cooper, and of course, the marriage ended in 1989, after about nine years together as husband and wife.
