He started learning martial arts as a child, but professionally he started training with Jackson’s Submission Fighting. Sanchez considered the best third-round fighter, debuted in 2002 in the Ring of Fire 5, which he won by forcing Michael Johnson into submission. His next fight was against Jesus Sanchez, whom he defeated by knockout in the Aztec Challenge. In 2004 he won the KOTC welterweight world championship after defeating Jorge Santiago unanimously.
