When the Game of Thrones began, it was expected to be another niche HBO show, followed by only a few million people. But with its great leading actors and a multitude of fascinating characters, it quickly became number one on TV, with billions of followers, and became a vehicle to launch the careers of a few actors and actresses in the mainstream. Gethin Anthony, who played Renly Baratheon on the show, is one of the actors who achieved a surge in popularity thanks to his appearance on the show.
Before he was cast in Game of Thrones, Gethin Anthony had only appeared in a few movies or television shows, many of which were small projects in which he played an even smaller role, but that has changed since his lead role in Game of Thrones. He subsequently appeared in major productions such as Aquarius, First Kill, The Magicians, and several others.
Gethin Anthony Biography
The man who would one day play a contender for the Iron Throne in Westeros was born on 9 October 1983 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. Much of his personal background is unknown, but his academic journey began at Aston Hayes Primary School and he attended several other primary schools before moving on to secondary school at Tiffin School.
After completing his primary education he was awarded a scholarship to the British American Drama Academy and spent his higher education at Oxford University, where he studied English literature at Balliol College. While still at Oxford University, Gethin Anthony displayed the brilliance that has characterized his career to date and rose to become President of the Dramatic Society of the prestigious school.
After his time in Oxford, he moved to the London Academy of Music and Performing Arts where he completed his training as an actor. Armed with several years of training and his own innate talent, Gethin Anthony began his career as an actor on stage, where he appeared in plays such as Macbeth, The Comedy of Errors, Europe, and several others, including many works by William Shakespeare.
He made his screen debut in Holby City, where he played Drew Kramer in one episode of the show, and in the same year, he starred in his first feature-length film, a television movie called Pinochet’s Last Fight as William Straw. In the early days of Gethin Anthony’s career, he appeared in a number of shows and television films until he was cast as Renly Baratheon in Game of Thrones in 2011.
Between 2011 and 2012, he starred in eight episodes of the series, but he played a central role that significantly influenced the series. After his time in the series ended, Gethin switched to movies like Copenhagen, We Are Monster, and shows like Aquarius: The Summer of Love and Aquarius, in both of which he played the character of Charles Manson.
Further appearances were First Kill, Hi-Lo Joe, and the show The Magicians. While he has made significant progress in acting on the screen, Gethin Anthony continues to star in stage plays.
Is He Gay Or Dating Anyone?
In Game of Thrones, undoubtedly his biggest project to date, his character Renly Baratheon was a gay character. The talent with which he played the character led to rumors that he was in fact gay.
Unfortunately, the brilliance of his work in the series is perhaps no more than proof of the depth of his talent, for since Gethin Anthony stepped into the limelight as an actor, it is not known that he is in any kind of relationship.
He has managed to keep his private life away from the circling eyes of the media and curious fans, and we can’t confirm whether he is either gay or not. However, it is expected that he will betray his partner when he is ready.
Besides the lack of information about his personal life, we know very little about Gethin Anthony’s family.
