You may know Don Cheadle as Jim Rhodes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe films in which he plays the superhero War Machine, or as Marty Kaan from the Showtime sitcom House of Lies, among many other roles in which he won or was nominated for a prize.

Don Cheadle was born on November 29, 1964, in Kansas City, Missouri, as the middle child of Donald Frank Sr. and Bettye Cheadle. He attended a number of schools while growing up because his family moved around a lot. These include Hartley Elementary School in Lincoln, Nebraska, and East High School in Denver, Colorado.
Cheadle was very active in the theater department as a child. He performed in plays and pantomimes and was also part of a jazz band in which he played the saxophone and was an active choir member. It was no surprise that Cheadle moved to California after graduating from high school in 1982 to attend the California Institute of the Arts, a university dedicated to visual and performing arts students. He completed his studies with a bachelor’s degree in visual arts (acting).
Cheadle had already started working as an actor during his school days, taking over small parts of television programs and making stage appearances at the same time. He played in the comedy “Moving Violations” and then in shows like “Fame”, “L.A. Law” and “Hill Street Blues”.
