Career

Eddie George was always in the first round of the 1996 NFL draft, and observers were not disappointed. He was selected by the Houston Oilers as the 14th overall pick in the first round of the draft. He went straight into the business as the starting running back and never missed a single game for the Houston Oilers (now called the Tennessee Titans) in his rookie season. His performance earned him the NFL Rookie of the Year-Gong and the Associated Press Offensive Rookie of the Year-Gong. In his second season with the Titans, George made the leap to the Pro Bowl (and the next three years in a row). He also led them to their very first Super Bowl final – Super Bowl XXXIV, but they would lose to the St. Louis Rams in the 1999 season.

In 2000, Eddie George signed a six-year contract extension with the Titans worth $41.25 million plus a signing bonus of $10 million. It also included an option for a one-year extension that could be activated by the Outfit. The contract raised his profile and made him one of the highest-paid running backs in the league. However, after eight seasons with the Tennessee Titans, Eddie George left the team in 2004 when he refused to accept a pay cut.
