Emmy was born on September 25, 1991, in Mineola, New York, as Mary Elizabeth Clarke. She created the name Emmy from her initials. She has two siblings; an older brother named Patrick and a younger sister named Bridget. As Emmy grew up, her family moved to different places within a short period of time, which was reflected in her academic history. Emmy was only 1 year old when her parents moved from New York to Houston, Texas.

When she was 6 years old, she moved from the United States to England and attended the American School of England (TASIS). At the age of 11, she moved back to New York and was enrolled at the Royal Academy of Dance.
