After a couple of years where it looked like he was out of place at the highest levels of American football, Garrett Celek could prove to be a bargain for the San Francisco 49ers in the years to come as the tight end is slowly but surely coming in handy for his team.
Garrett Celek Biography
Celek was born Garrett Bartholomew Celek, one of six children of Steve and Debbie Celek, on May 29, 1988, in Cincinnati, Ohio. At a very young age, Celek discovered America’s favorite pastime, playing with his grandfather and siblings, one of whom later became a professional athlete.
For his high school education, Celek attended La Selle High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he was a star of the soccer team and, most importantly, was accepted into the PrepSttar All-Midwest team. After high school, Garret Celek was transferred to Michigan State University, where his talents were put to effective use from the beginning. As a rookie, Celek played in 12 games and recorded 6 receptions for 50 reception yards and 1 reception touchdown. He did not quite reach the high standards he set as a sophomore, as he only played 10 games and scored 3 receptions for 33 yards and 1 touchdown.

Cleek’s downward spiral continued into his third year of college, as he only played two games and scored two receptions for 17 yards in one of those two games. Celek’s fortunes finally changed in his senior year in terms of his performances, when he appeared in 14 games. His statistics, however, were similar to those of previous years. He recorded 3 receptions, 35 receiving yards, and 1 receiving touchdown. In total, Garrett Celek made 14 receptions for 135 receiving yards and 3 receiving touchdowns in his college career.
After graduation, Celek hoped to be drafted in the sixth or seventh round, as experts had predicted he would be caught. Unfortunately, he was not selected for the Tight End, which was not invited to this year’s NFL Scouting Combine, but he was still able to secure a contract as an inexperienced free agent with the San Francisco 49ers. He put a three-year contract worth $1.44 million on paper.
NFL Career
Garrett Celek began his NFL career as the fourth tight end in his team’s lineup. He made his debut for the team in a game against the New York Jets, before making 4 receptions for 51 reception hotels in his rookie season. The following season, Celek moved up one place to become the third tight end in his team’s roster, but still only managed two catches for 38 yards in 12 games.
In the 2014 season, Celek suffered numerous injuries that limited him to only 3 appearances with 2 receptions and 53 receiving hotels. The following year, after signing a one-year contract for $710,000 to stay with the 49ers, Celek enjoyed his best season as a professional to date, scoring 19 receptions for 186 receptions and 3 touchdown receptions. This achievement earned him a new four-year 2016 contract worth $10.20 million, which proved to be the motivation Celek needed to score 29 receptions in 350 receptions and three touchdowns in 16 games.
Garrett Celek Family – Wife

Garrett Celek comes from a large family. As mentioned earlier, he is the younger brother of the now-retired tight end of the Philadelphia Eagles, Brent Celek, who was on the Eagles team that defeated the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl LII. Before moving on to Philadelphia via the 2007 NFL Draft, where he was selected with the 162nd pick in the 5th round, Brent Celek played college football for the University of Cincinnati, where he particularly won the UC Claude Rost Award, which is given to the most valuable player. He was also named to the All-Big East Conference second select team.
