On January 20, 2001, George W Bush became the most powerful man in the world after being sworn in as the 43rd President of the United States. The former American president was born on July 6, 1946, in New Haven, Connecticut, as the first child of a student at Yale University, George Herbert Walker Bush, and his young wife Barbara Pierce, and was christened George Walker Bush. George, who has mainly English and German roots, grew up alongside siblings: Jeb Bush, Neil, Marvin, and Dorothy. He lost his brother Robin Bush, who died at the age of 3 years.

He received his education at the Kinkaid School, which was a preparatory school before moving on to Phillips Academy. From here Bush went to Yale University. After his bachelor’s degree, George moved to Harvard Business School, where he earned an MBA.

While in high school, George W. Bush played baseball and when he transferred to college, he played rugby. At that time he was also a member of the Skull and Bones Society.

He was appointed to the Texas Air National Guard in 1968 and served in the Air Force Reserve until 1974 when he was honorably discharged. After that, Bush decided to go into business in 1977 by founding an oil exploration company, Arbusto Energy.

Bush also decided to devote himself full-time to politics by running for the House of Representatives in the 19th District of West Texas, but he lost the election in 1978.
