He has American citizenship and is of African-American descent. Collins attended Franklin County High School in Meadville, Mississippi, where he started his soccer career. At the Franklin County Bulldogs, Collins played as a wide receiver, quarterback, and safety before becoming a prominent quarterback and linebacker.
During his college career, the star led the Bulldogs to win the Class 3A State Football Championship in his first year. The following year he also led the Bulldogs to the State Championship finals and was named to the 2007 Mississippi – Alabama All-Star Game where he had a solo tackle. There he played linebacker, defensive back, and defensive end for the Golden Eagles. He ended his college career in 2012 with a record of three touchdowns, 314 tackles, three interceptions, and 21 quarterback sacks.
