He has American citizenship and is of African-American descent. Collins attended Franklin County High School in Meadville, Mississippi, where he started his soccer career. At the Franklin County Bulldogs, Collins played as a wide receiver, quarterback, and safety before becoming a prominent quarterback and linebacker.

During his college career, the star led the Bulldogs to win the Class 3A State Football Championship in his first year. The following year he also led the Bulldogs to the State Championship finals and was named to the 2007 Mississippi – Alabama All-Star Game where he had a solo tackle. At the end of his high school career, Collins was named to the all-state soccer team by The Clarion-Ledger and was Max Lemming’s number twelve combo passer in the country. He received a three-star ranking from Scout.com, a total of 21 in Mississippi and 68th nationwide.

In addition to soccer, Collins was also an outstanding athlete; he represented Franklin County High School in the 2009 state championship; an aspiring shot put and discus throwing champion. He also finished second in the high jump and third in the triple jump.

He made his first professional appearance for the Patriots in their game against Buffalo Bills. The Patriots triumphed over the Bills with a record 23-21, and by the end of his rookie season, Collins had 16 games, four passes, and 43 tackles.
