Honolulu-born Joseph Jason Namakaeha Momoa was born in Hawaii on August 1, 1979. He spent most of his growth in Iowa, where he attended high school. He graduated in marine biology from the university, but eventually switched to wildlife biology. By this time Jason had returned to Hawaii where he was discovered by the famous designer Takeo Kobayashi who advised him to consider a career as a model.
