Career

JaVale McGee was selected by the Washington Wizards with the 18th overall prize in the first round of the 2008 NBA draft. From 2008 to 2012, he played with the team and completed a total of 255 regular-season appearances. His best year was the 2010/11 season, in which he played his most games, 79, started 75 and averaged 27.8 minutes per game. He was also selected to participate in the 2011 NBA Slam Dunk Contest and was the first wizard to do so.

McGee lost the final round of the Dunk contest to Blake Griffin but was comforted when he was quoted by Guinness World Records as the person who dips the most basketballs in a single jump. He did this by throwing three balls down and holding two on both hands, the third being thrown to him by teammate John Wall.

In March 2012, McGee was traded to the Denver Nuggets. Despite fewer appearances and fewer minutes than the Wizards, he had a chance to play in the playoffs for the first time in his career as Denver secured sixth place in the Western Conference this year. They were eliminated by the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round after seven games.

JaVale McGee played in Denver until February 2015, when he was traded against the Philadelphia 76s. His time in Philadelphia was very short as he was abandoned after only six appearances. He joined the Dallas Mavericks in August 2015. However, a stress fracture injury limited his appearances for the team, as he only played 34 regular-season games and 2 playoff games before he was abandoned again in July 2016.

JaVale McGee’s next team turned out to be the Golden State Warriors, losing the finalists the year before, but eventually the winners of the 2017 NBA Championship. He currently plays for the Warriors who are trying to win another championship.
