Jermaine Jackson is a member of one of the most successful families of musicians that ever walked the earth, the Jackson Family. He is a singer and songwriter who together with his siblings formed members of the Jackson Five, a group that presented the legendary Michael Jackson to the world. Jermaine is not only a singer but also a bass guitarist and songwriter. Although he remained in Michael’s shadow, he is also successful as a singer.
Jermaine Jackson’s Bio
As Jermaine La Jaune Jackson, the singer was born on December 11, 1954, in Gary, Indiana, USA. His parents, Joe Jackson, and Katherine Jackson, and his siblings Rebbie, Jackie, Tito, La Toya, Marlon, Michael, Randy, and Janet Jackson raised him in a very large and musically talented family. Although Jermaine and his siblings grew up as Jehovah’s Witnesses, he converted to Islam in 1989.
His father, who first dreamed of becoming a boxer before giving up the dream of taking care of his family, also had the desire to become a singer, but it never came true. He still had a guitar, however, which Jermaine and his brothers used to practice in his absence. This is how their first band, the Jackson Brothers, was born, with Jermaine as lead singer. It was Michael Jackson, however, who later became the lead singer as the group grew into the Jackson Five.
Even before he graduated from Birmingham High School in Van Nuys in 1973, The Jackson Five had already signed a contract and started to release songs. Later they signed with Motown Records, but due to some disagreements the highly successful group went to Epic Records, but Jermaine stayed because of what he called his loyalty to the record label. This is said to be due to his marriage to Hazel, the daughter of Motown founder Berry Gordy.
Although this step separated him from the Jackson Five in 1975, which now became the Jacksons, it led him to embark on a full solo career. Nonetheless, he had already started singing on his own before that, in 1972, and was already a successful singer with hits that sold millions of copies.
He released his first solo album “Jermaine” in 1972 and then “Come Into My Life” in 1973. By 2012 he had already released 12 more albums, including “Precious Moments” (1986), “Don’t Take It Personal” (1989), “You Said” (1991), and “I Wish You L.O.V.E” (2012).
Siblings, Wife, Children, and Girlfriend
As mentioned earlier, Jermaine Jackson grew up in a large family. He is the fourth child in a family of 9 children. He had a younger brother, Brandon Jackson, who died after his birth. His siblings are Maureen Rebbie Jackson, Jackie Jackson, Tito Jackson, La Toya Jackson, Marlon Jackson, Michael Jackson, Steven Jackson, Janet Jackson, and Joh’Vonnie Jackson, who was born after an affair of Joe Jackson with Cheryl Terrell.
To date, Jermaine Jackson has been married three times. The first woman he married was Hazel Gordy in 1973. Hazel was the eldest child of Berry Gordy and married Jermain until 1988 when he filed for divorce and received after her husband was accused of fraud. Before the marriage ended, she had three children, Jay Jackson Jr., Autumn Jackson, and Jaimy Jackson.
The next woman to become his wife was Alejandra Oaziaza, whom he married in 1995. Before he married her, she was in a relationship with his brother Randy. Interestingly, she already had two children with Randy; Genevieve Jackson and Steven Randall Jackson Jr. You would think that after the kidnapping of your youngest brother’s wife, it would be love forever, but it was not to be like it ended in 2003 with three children, Jaafar, Donte, and Jermajesty. Before the marriage ended, it was later revealed by the New York Post that he was secretly married to Lawanda Lane.
Halima Rashid became his official third wife after the two were married in 2004. They first met in January 2004 and by March they were engaged to be married five months later. In 2016 Halima filed for divorce from the singer.
Before marrying his brother’s former girlfriend and mother, Jermaine Jackson was with Margaret Maldonado for 7 years and they had two sons together. In total, he has seven children with three different women.
Interestingly, the legend of the Jackson Five announced in 2018 that he would marry his girlfriend Maday Velazquez, who was only 23 years old at the time. There is an age difference of almost 40 years between the two.
Jermaine Jackson is neither musically nor financially the most successful member of the Jackson family. In fact, there was a time when he was considered the one who was almost always broke. Today his net worth is estimated at 5 million dollars.
