Royal Princess was born on December 19, 1998, as Mikaela Straus in New York City. Her father Oliver Straus is a sound engineer and owner of Mission Sound Studios. As such, she had contact with music at a very young age. She spent a large part of her childhood with her father in the studio and learned various instruments and production techniques.

She grew up in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and in search of a hobby, she took drama lessons at a young age. For her education, after graduating high school, she moved to the University of Southern California in L.A. to study music. While she was there, she often shuffled out of the studio while she continued to work on her music for the campus.

After the release of her first track in 1950, Harry Styles tweeted some of the lyrics to his over 32 million followers. It changed King’s fate almost overnight when the song received massive streams across the platforms.
In early 2019, it emerged as the runner-up of the BBC Sound of the Year. In the same year, it also made it into the category of DIY Magazine of the Year 2019.

Since 2017 she was in a relationship with the actress Amandla Stenberg.
