Lori Singer – Biography

Lori Singer was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, on November 6, 1957, the child of parents Jacques Singer and Leslie Singer. She was born into a musical family that included a father who was a music conductor and a mother who was a concert pianist. Other members of her family include her brother, Marc Singer, who is also an actor and perhaps the most popular member of the Singer family, Bryan Singer, who is her cousin, and a renowned film, television director and producer.

She began her training on musical instruments when she was a child, with a special emphasis on the cello. She debuted as a soloist at the age of thirteen and has since performed in various venues, including such iconic venues as Carnegie Hall and the Royal Albert Hall.

For her education, she attended the famous Julliard School, where she continued her lifelong training as a cellist and included acting.

Although she is no longer frequently seen in films and television, she continues to perform as a cellist in various venues.

After years of acting studies, Lori Singer finally appeared on screen for the first time as Jodi Belcher in the television movie Born Beautiful.

She was an unknown name at the time, but that changed after she was cast in her second project that same year in the series Fame, in which she played the character, Julie Miller. Although the series lasted only a year, with Lori in 38 episodes, she made her breakthrough through the series and became a well-known actress.

Lori Singer further cemented her place in the consciousness of mainstream film audiences when she starred alongside Kevin Bacon in the 1984 film Footloose as Ariel.

Once her name was fully established as a movie star, Lori also appeared in other films such as Trouble in Mind, The Man with One Red Shoe, The Falcon and the Snowman, Summer Heat, Warlock and several others.

She returned to television in the 1990s and appeared on the television show American Playhouse, Storm and Sorrow and the film Equinox, where she played the character of Sharon Ace. She also appeared on Sunset Grill and F.T.W.

As the new millennium dawned, Lori Singer, who after completing her role as Sydney Bloom in the show VR.5 and the film Bach Cello Suite #4: Sarabande, appeared sparsely in Hollywood projects, with the exception of a feature-length film, When Will I Be Loved, and the short film Little Victim, in no project in the first decade of the 2000s.

In the second decade of the 2000s, she continued to make sparse appearances in both films and TV shows, including Experimenter (2015), an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2011), and a few others.

Throughout her career, Lori Singer has won Golden Globes, Television Academy Honors, and a prize at the Venice Film Festival.

Just like her filmography, Lori Singer has a minimal relationship history compared to her peers. She was married only once, to a lawyer named Richard Emery, a renowned legal entity who is one of the founders of Emery, Celli, Brinckerhoff & Abady LLP.

How they met remains a mystery, but they eventually married sometime in 1980 and remained married until 1996, when they divorced after sixteen years together.

During their time together, Lori Singer had their only child, Jacques Rio Emery, who was born in March 1991. While most people would have married in the time since the divorce, including her ex-husband Emery, who married a woman named Melania Levitsky, Lori remains a single woman.
