Marcela Valladolid is a woman who knows how to whet the appetite by transforming different ingredients into delicious dishes. She is not an ordinary cook, she is a great cook! Anyone who is a fan of Food Network will be familiar with her name, as she was the host of the cooking series Mexican Made Easy and a member of the jury for the Best Baker in America show, both on the channel. Marcela is not only a cook but also an author and mother of three children.
Who is Marcela Valladolid?
The cook was born Marcela Luz Valladolid on July 19, 1978, in San Diego, California. In keeping with the naming tradition of Hispanics, she lists on her website the last name of her father, Valladolid, and the maiden name of her mother, Rodriguez, to have Marcela Valladolid Rodriguez.
She never intended to pursue a career as a chef until she began working in a cooking school run by her aunt Marcela in Tijuana, Mexico. Her experiences there sparked a passion for cooking and led to her decision to pursue this path as a profession. Consequently, Marcela Valladolid enrolled at the Los Angeles Culinary Institute and subsequently graduated as a certified chef.
Not willing to stop, she moved to Paris, France, where she was accepted at the Ritz-Escoffier School of Cooking and graduated as a classically trained pastry chef. She brought her knowledge to Tijuana and started her own catering company. Her desire to share her knowledge with others led her to teach cooking techniques at home in various classes with 40 students.
Marcela’s growth in the cooking industry took her one step higher when she became an editor and recipe stylist for the American magazine Bon Appétit. She also participated in the reality game show The Apprentice in 2005: Martha Stewart, and came fourth.
In her first cooking show, which was broadcast on Discovery en Español in the United States, the cook showed viewers how traditional recipes are preserved in local Hispanic homes. In August 2009, she published her first cookbook, Fresh Mexico: 100 simple recipes for authentic Mexican taste.
In 2010, Marcela Valladolid appeared on Food Network’s Mexican Made Easy, which was her second cooking show. In September of the following year, she published her second cookbook Mexican Made Easy. The aim of the show and the book was to show the world that there is no “yellow cheese” in traditional Mexican cuisine and that her Mexican cooking style can be prepared with “a fresh taste that suits everyone”.
Marcela has also appeared in other Food Network shows, including Throwdown! with Bobby Flay, where she was one of the judges for a fish taco competition in the show’s 6th season. She also teamed up with the celebrity chef (Bobby Flay) to compete against Masaharu Morimoto and his teammate Andrew Zimmern in Iron Chef America 2012.
That same year, she made it to the finals in a celebrity version of Chopped and finished second out of four competitors. The next year, Marcela Valladolid was one of the judges at the Guy’s Grocery Games. She is also one of the two judges at CBS’ The American Baking Competition.
On 27 November 2013, the beautiful lady appeared as a guest model on the game show The Price Is Right. In the meantime, she participated in That’s Too Much in 2004 and won a car. In January 2014 Marcela Valladolid returned to the Food Network and made her debut on The Kitchen as one of the co-hostesses. She finally left the show in October 2017.
Marcela Valladolid’s Family (Husband and Kids)
The popular cook was once married to Fausto Gallardo, a Mexican activist. Their marriage lasted a short time before they divorced in 2003. Many years later they were able to resolve their differences and got back together and remarried in 2012.
Unfortunately, the relationship broke up again because Marcella allegedly had an affair with British bake-off star Paul Hollywood, who appeared with her as a judge in the American baking competition in 2013.
She is currently engaged to Philip Button and has two children named David Button-Valladolid (son), born on April 9, 2014, and Anna Carina Button-Valladolid (daughter), born on December 5, 2016, and Marcela Valladolid had a son named Fausto Gallardo with her ex-husband on April 27, 2004.
