Michelle Fairley was born on 17 January 1964 in Coleraine, Northern Ireland, as the daughter of Brian and Theresa Fairley. From an early age, she developed an interest in acting and theatre, which she developed during her school days at the Roman Catholic Grammar School.
As a teenager, Michelle Fairley came to Ulster Youth Theatre where she began her career as a stage actress which she continues to this day.
Her path in the theatre led her to Fringe Benefits, a theatre company before she began to perform on screen. Since she began appearing on the big screen in 1987, Michelle Fairley has continued to perform in plays and has appeared in plays such as Julius Caesar, Road, and several others.

Michelle Fairley began her career as a professional actress in 1986, at the age of 22, and she has continued to work and perform in films, theatre, and TV shows.
She has been involved in over seventy projects in film and television, and it all began with the 1987 film Hidden City, in which she played a nameless cleaning lady. Two years later she starred in her first television show, Saracen, the Maeve, in just one episode.
In 1990, Michelle Fairley was given the opportunity to show her stuff during the year when she starred in three projects – the film Hidden Agenda and two shows, Theatre Night and 4 Play, where she was a guest star in one episode of each show.
During the 1990s Michelle Fairley built her reputation by appearing on several other shows including Cardiac Arrest, Children of the North, Screen Two, Safe and Sound, The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling, and several others.
At the beginning of the new millennium, Michelle Fairley continued her appearances on television shows until the early 2010s when she appeared in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 as Mrs. Granger. In 2011, she began playing her most iconic role to date when Catelyn Stark appeared in Game of Thrones, which featured in a total of 25 episodes and was featured in one of the series’ most popular episodes, The Rains of Castamere. Since then she has had other important appearances in Suits and 24: Live Another Day.
