Nick Young is a professional basketball player who became infamous during his time with the Los Angeles Lakers for a number of out-of-court incidents, one of which led to the popular meme “Confused Nick Young”.
The native Californian describes himself as the prophet of Swag, hence the nickname Swaggy P. He is a versatile player who can play in all positions except the shooter and the small front positions. Young is currently playing for the Golden State Warriors, where he hopes to win his first NBA championship.
Nick Young was born on June 1, 1985, in Los Angeles, California as Nicholas Aaron Young in Mae and Charles Young Snr. He attended Grover Cleveland Charter High School in Reseda, California, where he played a prominent role in their basketball team. In his senior year, Young was outstanding, scoring an average of 27.2 points and 10.8 setbacks per game. He achieved a field shootout share of 57.3% and a three-point shootout share of 46.8%, earning him the first-team honors of the San Fernando Valley.
Young received offers from numerous colleges, but he decided, however, to visit the University of Southern California to play for the Trojans. In his junior and second year, he was admitted to the All-Pac-10 First Team. In the 2007 NCAA tournament, he led his team into the Sweet Sixteen round, where they were beaten by the top-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels. After that year, Young decided to become a pro, waived his senior year, and signed up for the 2007 NBA Draft, where he was selected in the first round with the 16th overall selection of Washington Wizards.
Nick Young played a total of 75 games for the Wizard as a rookie, but only from 2. He scored 7.5 points in 15.4 minutes per game. Young made a total of 335 appearances for the Wizards between 2007 and 2012. His most notable match for the team was on 11 January 2011 in a match against the Sacramento Kings, where he scored a career – 43 points.
In March 2012 Young was sold to the Los Angeles Clippers. He finished the 2011-12 season with the team and helped them secure a playoff position, their first in 6 years. After this campaign, Young signed a one-year contract with the 76s of Philadelphia.
The following season, Young returned to Los Angeles, but this time to the Lakers, where he scored an average of 17.9 points per game in his first season under coach Mike D’Antoni. His achievements led him to sign a multi-year contract with the franchise, which allowed him to play in his hometown alongside Kobe Bryant until 2017.
After D’Antoni’s departure and a few injuries that put him out of action, Young struggled to get a quality playing time under coach Byron Scott, whom he has since spoken directly about his dissatisfaction. He was later revitalized under youth coach Luke Walton but decided to leave the team by not opting for his option to renew his contract at the end of the 2016-17 season.
In July 2017, the now unrestricted free agent signed with the Golden State Warriors, with whom he now hopes to win his first NBA championship.
Nick Young’s Net Worth
Nick Young is said to have a net worth of about $8 million earned from salaries and advocacy during his 10-year plus NBA career. In his new one-year contract with the Warriors, Young will receive $5.2 million.
With this net worth, it’s no surprise that Young can afford to lead a lavish lifestyle, pay $3.4 million for a house, and own cars like a Ferrari, a BMW 7 Series, and a 1962 Chevy Impala.
His Girlfriend and Baby Mama
It’s not clear if Nick Young is in a serious relationship right now. He was previously engaged to Australian rapper Iggy Azalea in 2015 and is said to have spent $500,000 on a diamond engagement ring. Azalea later announced the engagement after revelations that Young had cheated on her with his baby mom Keonna Green.
Green, the mother of Young’s first child, Nick Young Jnr., announced that the couple was expecting a second child born during their engagement in Azalea. Young and Green met in high school. She was a cheerleader while he played on the basketball team.
