Pharrell Williams was born on April 5, 1973, in Virginia Beach, VA, USA. He is the oldest of three children born to Pharoah and Carolyn Williams. He attended Princess Anne High School and Kempsville High School. Williams grew up and was a percussionist and member of the marching school band. His ethnicity is African-American and he has American nationality.
Williams’ music career began at a young age. During his school days as an “unusual nerdy child”, he joined up with his friend and classmate Chad Hugo and began to perform together as a group called Neptunes. The duo was soon discovered by music producer Teddy Riley, who worked with them on some songs in his studio. Williams and Hugo eventually formed The Neptunes, a record production team producing R&B, hip-hop and soul music.
