O. J. Simpson is a former NFL player who played for the Buffalo Bills and the San Francisco 49ers. As an athlete, he was head and shoulders over his colleagues, won the Heisman Trophy at college and became the only player to ever rush over 2,000 yards in an NFL 14-game season.
After his retirement, Simpson was inducted into both the College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He was portrayed as a national hero as he began a career in acting and broadcasting before becoming notorious for his role in the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her boyfriend Ron Goldman.
O. J. was born on July 9, 1947, in San Francisco, California, the son of Jimmy Lee and Eunice Simpson in Orenthal James Simpson. Simpson, along with his siblings, was raised by his mother after their parents separated in 1952 when he was just five years old.
The family lived in the residential projects of Potrero Hill in San Francisco. He attended Galileo High School, where he played football for the first time. He played college football at the University of Southern California in 1968, where he won the Heisman Trophy, an award for the most outstanding player in college football.
Simpson entered the league as No. 1 when he took over No. 1 in the AFL-NFL Common Draft in 1969. He was selected by the Buffalo Bills, for whom he played from 1969 to 1977, before moving to the San Francisco 49ers, for whom he played until his retirement in 1979.
Despite many personal successes, O. J. never won a championship. He actually played only one playoff game throughout his 11-year Hall of Fame career.
