David Laid, a bodybuilder, fitness model and social media personality, is best known in social media, especially YouTube, for the transformation videos he uploaded. On his Instagram, David has more than 935k followers and over 890,302 subscribers on his YouTube channel of the same name, which he created in July 2009 with the username ‘computerman91’, obviously not with the original intention of posting fitness videos. Due to the popularity, he gained through social media, David Laid eventually became a Gymshark sponsored athlete. He lives in New York, where he earns his living as a freelance model.
Who is David Laid and how old is he?
The bodybuilder was born in Estonia on 29 January 1998. When he was a 2-year-old toddler, his father fell off a cruise ship docked in the harbor and died. To give David and his two younger brothers a better life, his mother, who is of Russian descent, moved to the United States of America a few years after the death of David’s father. There they settled in Atlantic City, New Jersey, where David Laid attended Mainland Regional High School.
Like some teenagers, David Laid had rapid growth during his teenage years that made him very gangly. His lanky figure killed his self-esteem, made him a regular target for bullies, and to make his already bad situation worse, he was diagnosed with scoliosis at the age of 14, a condition that causes lateral curvature of the spine and can even lead to disability.
On the advice of his doctors, David began weight training under the supervision of a physiotherapist in order to build up more muscle mass and avoid the consequences of the disease. Motivated by the opportunity to grow out of his gangly, almost mimic the body, gain more muscle mass, build confidence and feel comfortable in his own skin, David Laid began his fitness journey as a 90-pound teenager.
Although his main goal was to develop his muscles, the young man soon fell in love with strength training as an important part of developing the body of his dreams. Armed with the understanding that physical change does not happen overnight, David pursued strength training as it became a source of constant motivation for him, a goal he worked hard to achieve by sweating it out day after day at the gym. Over time, he began to see physical results and consequently gave up every other sport he was doing to concentrate on his training.
On his way to achieving his desired body shape, David Laid worked with online videos of other people’s body transformation and was also inspired by fitness gurus such as the Hodge twins, Marc Fitt and Jeff Seid. Just like the people who inspired him, he decided to document his fitness journey.
When you look back at how he was in the beginning, there is no doubt that his physical transformation is simply amazing. He has evolved from a frail little boy, once called “chicken legs” by his hockey coach, to a fitness icon who serves as a source of inspiration to others, and from the 14-year-old boy who is afraid to wear a swimsuit, to a super-safe fitness model who likes to show off his well-built body.
For David Laid the occupation with bodybuilding and fitness was first a means to an end, but nothing more. It has become not only his way of life but also his full-time career and a source of income, as he advertises for various companies on his training videos.
With over 100 videos, 890 thousand subscribers and more than 122 million views on his YouTube channel, David earn between 649 – 10.4K dollars per month, while his annual income is between 7.8K – 124.5K dollars. He has also signed sponsorship agreements with several multinational companies such as Gymshark, and all of this together brings his estimated net worth to $1 million.
