During her growth, Traylor Howard was enrolled at the Lake Highland Preparatory School in Orlando, Florida. There she completed her high school education and after graduating she went to Florida State University where she earned a degree in advertising and communications with a minor in English.

She made her first film appearance in 1994 with a role in the film Till the End of the Night, in which she played the role of Fran. Later that year she also starred in an episode of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman alongside Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher. From 1996 to 1997 the actress played the role of Joy Byrnes in the NBC sitcom series Boston Common alongside Anthony Clark and Tasha Smith.
The following year, Traylor Howard appeared in the role of Anne Henning in the film “Confessions of a Sexist Pig”. Her breakthrough came when she joined the cast of the ABC sitcom Two Boys and a Girl. There she played the recurring role of Sharon Carter from 1998 to 2001. Her next big role was in 2005 as Natalie Teeger in the American comedy-drama Monk. In the series, she played alongside Ted Levine and Bitty Schram from 2005 to 2009.
